Have you got confidence issues?

By Jennifer Hall | Uncategorized

One of the biggest blocks to success is your confidence issues.

When I work with people one to one, it becomes very obvious that on some level they have been sabotaging themselves because they lack confidence in being able to deliver what they’re promising OR too afraid to promise anything substantial due to being unconfident in their abilities and/or out of integrity with the outcomes.
Take Mavis for example (names have been changed for protection purposes although I would love a client named Mavis!) …

-Mavis came to me saying she didn’t know what to call herself as she had recently branched out in a few directions and didn’t know how to pull it all together.
-She had 3 programs, one of which she didn’t feel excited to run again after running it once already because she didn’t feel 100% aligned to the content.
-She was feeling like she wasn’t serving her clients in the best way she could even though she was giving them what they were asking for!
-She was struggling to offer anything in the first place because of a lack of confidence in the outcome she was saying she could help them with and dreaded getting clients even though she really wanted them!

Not the best place to be considering Mavis had an incredible talent and knowledge that could change the trajectory of struggling businesses and she was sitting on untapped gold and charging way below her worth to try and keep her prospects ‘happy’!

It became very apparent that she was trying to teach the things that she thought people would buy rather than what she was actually aligned and qualified to teach!
My first thought was – well done for thinking with a business mindset BUT bad news for your confidence, sales and customer satisfaction!

When it comes to creating a product that sells, yes it’s important to bear in mind what people want, but it’s also important to stay in your lane. It’s not about selling the things that everyone wants to buy or even the things that ‘most’ people want to buy, it’s about selling the thing that you are most ‘qualified’ (I don’t mean paper quals) to help with, to the specific people that want and need it. Including weeding out the numpties who want everything for nothing!

Our session went as follows…

-We set about making a list of all the things that she didn’t like or feel confident to teach and we removed them from the table! Instant confidence boost!
-We set about tightening her niche so that she spoke ONLY to the right people and fine-tuned it so that she felt absolutely amazing to position herself as such because it’s in alignment with HER OWN zone of genius!
-We set about rejigging and aligning her offerings to the RIGHT clients so that her audience knew if those offerings were right for them or not! Instant confidence and clarity boost!
-We set about tweaking her offerings, looked at how we positioned them to her audience plus how they were going to be delivered so that …

a) her prospects desired the packages for what they were designed to achieve. This meant gaining clarity on her ideal clients and defining the big juicy desired outcome that she was at first too scared to offer (until we worked on re-framing her mindset of course)

b) the packages were set to be delivered in the time it takes to get them that result, not the rigid timescales that everyone else’s packages dictated nor the timescales that ‘some people’ wanted or assumed it would take!

c) the packages delivered both wants AND needs, so that they over-delivered and provided them with all the necessary tools to create a successful outcome! Not just delivering the ‘quick magic pill’ that everyone wants that only gives half the answer!

d) they were priced appropriately for the energy expended and results of the packages, instead of delivering a package that cut corners on time and effort so that it could be priced cheaply that only truly spoke to the cheap magic pill hunters, which by the way is your worst nightmare of a client!

Instant confidence, clarity and integrity boost!

Mavis left that intensive session ready to rock her new products and couldn’t wait to deliver to them!

Much better: clear, confident and ready to burst like a firecracker!

Would you like some of that rocket juice?

‘I don’t want to be Smurfette!’ How Hollywood’s gender equality issue is playing out in the field of female experts.

By Jennifer Hall | Uncategorized

There has been a clear pattern in how females are continually being portrayed as sidekicks, support roles, damsels in distress in Hollywood and there are many amazing female role models and female film producers such as Reese Witherspoon, who are trying to change this portrayal of women in the industry and are doing an amazing job.

Today in The Guardian, Steve Rose wrote an excellent article on ‘Why can’t Hollywood accept gender equality?’. To give you some background, here’s a quick snippet…

‘’ It has been a good year for women in cinema in many ways, with a high count of quality female-made and female-led movies…But by some metrics, there’s still a way to go. In particular, the Smurfette Principle. The phrase was coined back in 1991 by US writer Katha Pollitt, who bemoaned the number of films and TV programmes that featured a group with one lone female. “The message is clear,” she wrote, “… boys are central, girls peripheral.” ‘’

But it isn’t just in Hollywood where this issue is prevalent. We’re already aware from all the press and awareness campaigns of late, regarding the gender pay gap where women are paid 18% less, but what’s even more concerning is that in 2012, HMRC reported that women were earning 40% less than men. This is concerning because as much as the employment world has a responsibility to stand for equality, it’s clear from these figures that a large proportion of women are not taking responsibility for their own equality.

On Wednesday of last week, I was a featured speaker at the Maximise Conference in Cheltenham where I’m proud to have won Speaker of the Year for the second year in a row. My talk was aimed at female experts in business to help them remove the label of ‘small business’ and the limits that we impose on ourselves to stand up and own our expertise, earn our worth and achieve business growth.

Each and every woman has a responsibility to work on her own mindset in standing shoulder to shoulder with male and female leaders in their field. As women, we can underrate ourselves, not necessarily against men, but just in general. Lack of confidence has a huge impact on not only the bar we set for ourselves but also in the ability to form trusted relationships with our prospective clients. If we want others to take us seriously and be recognised as valuable, then we must first take ourselves seriously and understand our own value.

The patterns of inequality and how women are portrayed that are reflected in places like Hollywood, the workplace and in the entrepreneurial world will only change when more female individuals own their value. It’s my mission to lead a movement where women own their worth, their expertise and value. Not as a feminist or even as an equal rights activist, but as a woman who believes in her own value. This isn’t about men vs women, this is about individuals standing and owning their expert status and their value regardless of gender. You’re either valuable or you’re not, it has nothing to do with gender.

It’s about time we started to follow suit of strong, highly valued female experts and thought leaders like Mel Robbins, Sheryl Sandberg, Shaa Wasmund and Oprah who know and fully own their worth. It’s time we stood strong as THE expert in our field, instead of under the radar. It’s a change that starts with each and every female and male. Let’s take responsibility for this reflective issue and be the change we wish to see in the world.

So rather than being a Smurfette – a second-hand side-kick, let’s stand shoulder to shoulder as great leaders in our industry.

‘I invested in a coach and it was a waste of time and money!’

By Jennifer Hall | Uncategorized

‘I hired a coach and didn’t get the results I was after, I was disappointed!’

These kinds of comments that I saw last week, seriously inspired me to write this article…

I feel for these people and you if you’re feeling equally let down, particularly if you genuinely had a bad coach (bad defined by the fact that they are only about making money and not about serving their clients!)
However, I suspect that the people that regularly seem to say these statements have pinned their entire success on one coach, on one strategy or on one ‘magic pill’ that they were hoping to swallow and make it all better.

I’ve worked with 4 coaches so far in my time as an entrepreneur and my ‘monetary success’ only started to appear after the fourth coach.
That isn’t because the first three didn’t have what it took, in fact, every single one of my coaches has brought so much gold to my business and success it’s been phenomenal. And I knew they would! How? Because I stalked them beforehand to make sure their free stuff was awesome!

The reason it worked after the 4th is that ‘I’ pieced the three ingredients for success together – Clarity, Strategy and Mindset… I HAD to have all three of these puzzle pieces in place before I could earn REAL money.
It wasn’t anyone’s fault that I didn’t earn that REAL money beforehand, asides from my own! I take FULL responsibility for my success and I NEVER pin it on anyone.
I urge everyone to do the same: 9 times out of 10 it’s not your coaches fault you didn’t get the results!
My first coach touched upon all 3 of those puzzle pieces in the beginning but ‘I’ hadn’t expanded far enough to implement all three.
And this is the thing, be honest with yourself on the areas you are focusing, have you taken action and implemented correctly everything you and your coach agreed to do? And do you need something else as well as the area your current coach is focusing on?

The key is to hire a coach who has the expertise in the area you’re currently struggling with that’s stopping you from moving forward.
The reality is, you may have to invest in several different experts depending on how many areas you’re struggling with.
BUT that’s the point, that’s why we’re the expert so we can help with the specific issue, not touch all the issues lightly and get us no further forward. I had success with every one of my coaches, as with every investment I made giant leaps forward toward my monetary goal.
Let me tell you that if I hadn’t worked with ALL 4 experts I wouldn’t have made where I am today.

Stop blaming others for your lack of success and take control of your destiny!
The only one to blame is you, so dust yourself off, do the work and DO NOT give up! You may or may not need to invest in 4 coaches, but if it meant investing in 4 or give up on your dream… what would you do? Said from a place of LOVE!

‘I just want to change people’s lives! But I can’t unless I get clients!’

By Jennifer Hall | Uncategorized

Is this screaming at you in your head and your heart?
That was what mine was doing about a year ago. I just wanted to coach, so badly but I just couldn’t until I found the alignment. The alignment was what I needed to move forward but I just couldn’t find it.

The thing is, these two truths exist…

  • We will never change anyone’s life unless we become an expert at doing so.
  • We will never change anyone’s life unless they want us too.

So if we are to change anyone’s life they have to want something really badly and we have to be really good at getting them what they want. That means we need to stop selling coaching and start selling the outcome.

To be truly successful in your coaching business you have to be able to answer these three questions with 100% confidence.

  1. What is the burning desire that your ideal client has that they would pay ANYTHING to achieve?
  2. Would you pay yourself for the specific transformation you give?
  3. What transformation can I give my clients that I would bet every last penny they would achieve, provided they put in the work?

The first question determines the strength of your niche and how likely someone is to pay you for your services.
The second question determines your self-worth and your alignment to your passion.
And lastly the third helps you determine how much faith you have in your outcome and abilities.

I’d so love to hear your answers!
