Facebook could shut you down if you use your personal page like a business page, so what can you do?

In this video, I give you my thoughts on using your personal Facebook page for business. I'll help you understand the best ways to use it.

It's important to mention that if you have many Facebook friends who are potential prospects then it would be silly not use them but using your personal Facebook page/profile to purely run your business from will lead to Facebook shutting you down. 

So be savvy and be mindful of why people are on social media... to connect with other human beings not necessarily businesses and logos.

Boost Your Social Media Engagement by Changing Your ‘Tone’

Firstly, it's important to realise that likes and comments don't build a business. This is something that one of my coaches once said to me and it has been the prevention of a LOT of comparisonitis issues especially when it came to social media.

But if you are wondering how people manage to get engagement on their posts and why yours isn't quite cutting the mustard, I'm about to reveal a common mistake that many people make when posting on social media.

How Many Have Heard This Saying at One Time or Another? (Usually With Your Spouse) - 'It's Not What You Said, It's The Way You Said It!'

It's important to realise that the tone and style that you use in how you say what you want to say, will cause a certain response from other people and a lot of the time on social media that response is 'silence'.

Being me, I obviously seriously suggest that you indeed position yourself as an Expert but what I don't mean is... position yourself as a wooden encyclopedia/journal. 

It's important to remember that as much as you want to use social media for visibility, the majority of it's users are using it for personal connection, so you have to meet with that goal.

Ever wondered why that post you shared from your business page without comment got ignored?

Well, It's Because You're Broadcasting Instead of Actually Conversing with People

For instance, you post something from your business page of value to your fans - people who do read take value from it obviously and perhaps give it a like and maybe even a comment.

Then you take that same post, copy and paste into a group and wait for the comments to flood in... but they don't.

If you're treating communities as a place to broadcast value it's not going to go down well. People will accept it from your page because it's assumed that you are talking to the masses, but they are not going to like it at all in a group because they're there for conversation.

Here's a Better Way of Re-purposing That Post to Boost Social Media Engagement...

Begin with, 'Hey guys, I noticed a lot of you in here were talking about how to find your niche in the last few days and whilst I commented on your posts to help out and support, I thought it might be helpful if I posted some of my top tips on this that might help you gain a bit of clarity since this is my zone of genius. I'll tag those of you who I know were asking q's around this, I truly hope this helps you...'

Can you see the tone and context change?

It's less, 'LISTEN TO MY AMAZING EXPERTISE' and much more 'I'd love to come and contribute to this community on a human level.'

Be conscious of where you're posting and how you're re-purposing your content. Yes, you want to demonstrate your awesomeness and expertise but you also want to bear in mind how you're delivering that value and in what context/platform.

A Little Note and a Giant Truthbomb...

I hope you had a marvelous weekend! I spent mine visiting my family in York and seeing someone from my childhood who moved away to the states for 20 years and haven't seen for a very long time. It was so nice to reconnect after such a long time, and whilst a lot has happened (kids, business, living in totally new places) the relationship was still perfectly intact - don't you just love those moments! Connection is key to engagement and relationship building, and I truly believe that's made through conversation. Talk 'with', not 'at'.

How to Grow Your Facebook Group Using Other People’s Groups (the non-icky way)

Using other people's Facebook Groups to build your own can feel icky, but...

Done correctly, it can be an excellent way to grow your Facebook group. In this video training I answer the dilemma of doing this the non-icky way and successfully networking a group in the classy way. 

Many newer entrepreneurs accidentally step on other peoples toes when they try to network in other people's groups.  Growing your group can feel hard. especially when the groups that are the best groups to be in are the ones that don't allow promotion.

However, there are ways that you can still let other people know what you specialise in and that will give them an obvious pointer to get in touch with you and join your group without breaking promotion rules or annoying the group owner and avoid being chucked out.

How to Grow Your Audience

Showing you the non 'icky' and savvy ways to grow your audience right now...

Growing your audience needn't be a mystery. In this comprehensive video training that I ran live inside my Facebook group, I'll show you all the ways you can build a tribe that you can monetise.

Audience Building

You don't need a large audience in order to make money, an audience (even if small) full of the right people is more important.

Finding clarity on your ideal client before you start building your audience is essential, otherwise you'll end up with a hotchpotch of people who haven't been prequalified for what you want to sell.

The people within your audience will need to have the problem you specialise in solving and desire the outcome you specialise in helping them achieve.

Once you do have complete clarity on who you're serving, it's then time to go out there and find them.

Below I've listed the places where you'll be able to find and attract your clients, but be warned if you're looking at this list and you're still saying 'but which events? which publications? what opt-in? what groups? and what would would I say?' Then it's time to face the fact that you need more clarity on your ideal client.

Free ways and places you can grow your audience but not limited to:-

  • Facebook groups​
  • In person Networking
  • Speaking Events you attend
  • Speaking Events where you’re speaking
  • Opt-ins/Lead Magnets
  • PR – Writing articles for publications on or off line with a CTA
  • Guest Expert Spotlight – that can be in groups but it can also be in other places too, such as influencers with successful Facebook pages.
  • Other social media platforms other than just Facebook like IG, LinkedIn etc
  • Facebook Personal Page (see video training)
  • Your own podcast
  • Podcasts you attend as a Guest Expert
  • Search Engine Optimised Vlog on YouTube
  • Search Engine Optimised Blogs
  • Summits
  • Giveaways

Paid ways = Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Google Ads, YouTube Ads etc

Places to use a call to action to either join your list, your group, podcast etc...

  • At the end of lives
  • Links behind cover photos 
  • Group Descriptions
  • YouTube Descriptions
  • Pinned posts
  • Email signatures
  • Homepage of your website above the fold and at the bottom
  • About Page on your website
  • At the end of social media posts
  • At the end of blogs/vlogs
  • At the end of guest expert spotlight sessions
  • At the end of a non-promotional webinar

Make sure before you attempt to grow your audience, you get clear on exactly who you serve so that you build a tribe that buys.

Boil it down to a specific person so that you can get clear on a specific problem you solve and an outcome you achieve for them. This will make client attraction a lot easier.

Struggling to Generate Quality Leads from Networking?

Why you're struggling to generate quality leads from networking...

 One of the BIGGEST reasons you struggle to generate quality leads from networking is because you're not KNOWN for something.

 Now I don't necessarily mean Tony Robbins known, in fact, I'm not even talking about Chris Ducker known... I mean - known (for something) in the circles that you hang out in.

And those circles don't need to be crawling with tens of thousands of people, it just has to be in spaces where your ideal clients hang out.

'Notice I said 'known for something' not just known. Famous does not equal $. Being well known for being worth knowing is where the $$$$ are at.'

If you're able to clearly communicate what you do AND you're 100% certain that you're communicating a genuine want and a solution to a genuine problem that your ideal clients want and suffer from, and you become known in your circles where your ideal client hangs out, there is no reason why you can't turn those prospects into leads and convert them with ease.

So if you've been struggling to generate leads from networking, ask yourself what's my problem?

1. Am I taking the actions I need to take to become known in my circles? Consistency, visibility, clear links back to what you do?

2. Do I have complete clarity on what my ideal client truly desires and the problem that they suffer from? Put another way, do you know what they are willing to pay anything for?

3. Am I hanging out where my ideal clients are at?

Or is it perhaps a mix of all those things? Many people struggle with doing the first point because of the lack of clarity on their ideal client... oh and guess what, if you don't know where they are hanging out you don't have true clarity on who they are.

12 Potentially Controversial FB Rules for maximum impact and engagement

  1. Don't post and run! This also counts for value posts too. Frankly, I find it annoying when I see posts in my group from people who love the sound of their own value but refuse to engage on anyone else's posts! (PS I've been guilty of this in the past... no ivory tower over here) 
  2. Network! BE part of a group, not an empty number! Build a relationship with the leader of the group and support them. Build relationships with the other 'hell yeah' members of the group. Actually involve yourself in a discussion. A like or a heart doesn't cut it. (also guilty in the past) 
  3. Get to know the ethos and mission of the group! Post relevant value in line with it that respects the leader. If the group or the leader is not in alignment with your values or isn't relevant or valuable to you... get outta there! 
  4. Be respectful but strong and stand in your truth! You'll be respected and NOTICED for it. 
  5. Remember there is no competition only collaboration! Carve your own corner of the world and stand together in strength. 
  6. Be mindful of the traffic in the group! If it's a quiet group don't spam four messages in a row, it's not necessary and it's annoying... if it's a very busy group it may be able to cope with more... but don't dilute your message. Quality over quantity. 
  7. Tell your reader/viewer what you want them to do next! Make sure there is a point behind what you're sharing. Memes and generic inspirational messages without relevance to your zone of genius/message is a NO! 
  8. Know your mission and your message and make sure your posts are in alignment! Inconsistent and mixed messages cause more harm than you realise! 
  9. Hang out and network in groups where your Ideal Client hangs out! Obvious but it does involve stepping outside your comfort zone. 
  10. Introduce yourself and stay engaged and connected! Ask for help or for an opinion and start engaging early! 
  11. Only promo where you're allowed to promo and make it obvious! In the words of Jessica Lorimer - 'if you're going to sell, SELL!' 
  12. Your primary purpose should be to serve and support! Make sure you do because you'll be loved for it and you'll attract the right people!
